Babe the Blue Scout

Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox

Paul Bunyan was a legendary giant lumberjack of the north woods of the United States and Canada. He was accompanied by a blue ox named Babe. The stories about him resemble traditional tall tales. In one such story, the ten thousand lakes of Minnesota originated when Paul and Babe’s footprints filled with water.

Let’s take some full width axles from a ’76 Ford and stick’em under the Scout.

Should fit.  Might sit a bit high?

Nah, It’ll fit fine.

We’ll just stick the scout axles under the ford and haul it away.

Half way there!  And lookin’ sharp?

Yeah, Very Nice.

Now on to the rear.

Oh, this is even easier.

Matt performs an intricate alignment.

And the neighbors love it!

Done!

Well not really.  This was just the prototype validation.  Now we really have to mate the transfer cases, remove the old spring perches and align the axle with the new transfer case.  Position and weld in the new spring perches.  Same on the front but also align the steering. Some driveline fabrication, brake lines, a few other things.  Oh, yeah, and get rid of the Ford!
